End a session
Ending a session closes check-in. The QR code stops working and the record settles into its final state — until you override something.
Two ways it ends
You end it. Choose End Session on the live screen when scanning is done. It ends immediately — there is no "are you sure?" — and the screen changes to Attendance session ended with the number of students who checked in.
It expires. Every session has a duration, and check-in closes on its own when that runs out. A session you forget about does not stay open indefinitely.
This is why duration is worth setting deliberately. It is the backstop for the day you walk out without closing anything.
What happens to students who never scanned
They are absent. Not "unrecorded" — absent, with whatever your grading settings say absent is worth.
That is usually correct, and it is fixable when it is not. But it does mean a session you started by accident and abandoned will mark your entire class absent, so delete a session like that rather than leaving it: in the group's Sessions tab, choose the bin icon on the session's row, then Delete Session. That permanently removes the session and all of its attendance records.
Only owners can delete a session. A TA who starts one by accident should tell the owner rather than leave it in the record.
Can you reopen one?
No. A session's check-in window does not reopen once it has closed.
That is not a problem in practice, because overrides do everything reopening would. If three students missed the window, mark them present by hand — faster than a second scanning round, and the record ends up identical.
If the whole class missed the window because you set a two-minute duration by mistake, start a fresh session and let them scan again.
Ending versus closing the tab
Closing the browser tab does not end the session. It keeps running until you end it or the duration expires — which is fine, and means an accidental tab close does not disrupt a class mid-scan.
After it ends
The session record has three tabs — Attendance, Coursework (anything tied to this session) and Violations, with a count — plus the session's grade total, grade average, late and excused counts.
Download Excel exports the session: every student, whether they attended, and their status or violation — including whose device they used, or how far out of range they were.
