What Quorum is
Quorum is where you run the administrative side of a course: who turned up, what they scored, and how they did on the exam. It does three jobs, and they build on each other in that order.
The three jobs
Attendance. You start a session, Quorum puts a QR code on the screen, and students scan it with their phones. The code changes constantly and can be fenced to the room you are standing in, so a student who is not there cannot easily check in. The record builds itself as the term goes on.
Coursework. Quizzes, assignments, midterms — anything you put a mark against. Assessments can be tied to the session they happened in, so a quiz sits with the tutorial it was handed out in rather than floating loose.
Exams. Written and delivered inside Quorum. Students sit them on their own devices, and every question — multiple choice or true/false — marks itself, so the scores land in your grade table as students submit.
Exams are on the Pro plan. Attendance and coursework are on every plan, including Free.
How a term flows through it
Create a group → one group per class
Add your students → by hand, or imported from a spreadsheet
Run sessions → one per lecture or tutorial, all term
Add coursework → quizzes and assignments as they happen
Export or grade → attendance grade, coursework breakdown
Archive the group → the record is kept, your dashboard clears
A group is one class. Everything — students, sessions, coursework, exams — belongs to a group, and nothing crosses between groups. If you teach three courses, you have three groups.
Who does what
| Owner | TA | |
|---|---|---|
| Runs sessions, marks attendance, enters grades | Yes | Yes |
| Adds, edits and deletes students, sessions, coursework | Yes | Yes |
| Renames, archives or deletes the group | Yes | No |
| Manages the team and billing | Yes | No |
You are the owner of any group you create. A TA is someone you invite to help run one. Students never sign in at all — they scan a code or open an exam link, and that is their entire contact with the app.
If you were invited to help with someone else's group, start at Working as a TA instead.
Where to start
If you have ten minutes and a class list, go to Your first ten minutes — it takes you from an empty account to a session with real check-ins in it.
